Everybody loves to go out and have a great time during summer, but Dr. Tim Ioannides cautions that it’s essential for people to protect their skin. Tim reiterates that the lack of proper skin protection can damage the skin, resulting in wrinkles, dark spots, and skin cancer. Tim points out that there isn’t a foolproof method that can guarantee complete protection from sun exposure. This is why he advises that people need to adapt to as many ways as they can.

Tim Ioannides MD admits that whenever one gets a sunburn, it’s a sign of the body sensing the ultraviolet rays that’s damaging the DNA in its cells. Flooding the area with blood helps with the healing process, which is characterized by painful inflammation or red skin. He notes that UVA and UVB are the two most common rays that reach the earth’s surface.

One trait of the UVA rays is that it penetrates deep into the skin causing age spots and premature wrinkles. While many people believe that the sun can’t damage the skin indirectly, Tim Ioannides reiterates that this isn’t the case. He admits that 80% of the ultraviolet rays can still reach the earth’s surface even on a cloudy day. This is why even on such days, Tim insists that people should protect their skin.

When the sun is shining brightly, Tim admits that the best way to protect against the sun is to seek shade. He insists that the peak hours of sun intensity are between 10A and 4P, and it’s during this time, seeking the shade is an important way of preventing the harmful rays from damaging the skin. He still insists that clothing is also a perfect barrier against the damaging ultraviolet rays.

Tim Ioannides believes that it is even more effective than sunscreen because it is consistent, but its coverage doesn’t wear away with time.
