Desiree Perez: A Fearless Humanitarian

Desiree Perez, who once was COO for JAY-Z’s Roc Nation and has since been names CEO has been known to be “fearless” and a “true humanitarian” as she has been called by JAY-Z himself. In 2018 she did a special interview with Yahoo News in which she addressed the city of Philadelphia trying to change the way that the Made In America rock concert that Roc Nation has put on in Philadelphia every year is done, including moving it to a different place in the city. The most recent mayor back then, Jim Kenney, chose to change the location that the concert would be held, which Roc Nation took to heart as an eviction notice and like they were being pushed out. As COO, Desiree Perez worked with the Roc Nation  to fight this decision and to get the concert back to the place it was normally held in 2012.

In 2019 Desiree Perez was announced as CEO of the company, taking over from the previous CEO, Jay Brown. Brown has since become Vice Chairman of Roc Nation, allowing Perez to move into his old position. In her new position, Perez will be able to lead Roc Nation in all aspects, including music, television, and management.

When accepting the position, Perez thanked her work family and actual family, saying she would not have made it to that position without them. She also spoke on what she was taught in her years at the company, including learning to do what is right and not what is easy. She also made sure to highlight JAY-Z’s impact on her and her career.
