Alexander Payne Features Paul Giamatti in New Flick

Alexander PayneAlexander Payne has disclosed his new film project. It is dubbed “The Holdovers,” and features Paul Giamatti, who worked with him on “Sideways.” The two were delightful to see on “Sideways,” and their subsequent collaboration is being hailed as a comeback.

In past interviews, Alexander Payne has stated that narratives like “Sideways” particularly inspire him. He prefers stories about human behavior, imperfect characters, and confusing situations that don’t generally come to an amicable conclusion.

Giamatti plays a cynical, divorced wine aficionado called Miles in the flick “Sideways.” He is a character who has lost hope in love and embarks on a tour of California wineries with his friend Jack. Even though the travel is intended to commemorate Jack’s impending wedding, we quickly learn that he is obsessed with making the most of his current single status.

Miles’ love interest is also a wine connoisseur, and the two connect over their shared passion. However, as their relationship progresses, Miles’ bond with Jack begins to fade away. Eventually, Miles musters the resolve to confront his problems and get his life back towards the end of the film.

Their next production, “The Holdovers,” is written by David Hemingson and adds to Payne’s conceptual tapestry in character-driven flicks by picking up another thread. Giamatti is given the role of Paul Hunham, a teacher whose rigidity and superiority complex turn off almost everybody he meets.
