Kevin Plank: The Businessman behind Under Armour

Kevin Plank is a philanthropist and a successful businessperson who was born in 1972. He is an American and the founder of Under Armour. The company is based in Maryland and deals with footwear, accessories, and sportswear. Kevin was born in Kensington, went to the University of Maryland for his bachelor’s degree in business administration.

When at the university, Kevin Plank joined the football team and noticed the need for better sportswear. Most players complained of sweaty t-shirts after their play. They preferred better synthetic materials that were comfortable, dry, and absorbent. That is how Under Armour was born, and the start was not smooth because of limited financial resources.

He made his first clients from his former teammates. His business premise was from his car and his grandmother’s basement in Georgetown, New York. He had challenges with getting first sales. He was able to secure some transactions from Georgia Tech, and by the end of the year, the same total sales equivalent to $17,000. He risked did an advert at the ESPN magazine. The first direct sales resulted in around $1 million, and by the end of 2010, the sales were at $1 billion.

Under his leadership and management, Under Armour was able to grow to $5 billion in sales revenue and employed over 15,000 staff members. Kevin Plank is also a trustee for the National Football Foundation. Before founding Under Armour, he had a seasoned side hustle job, and he operated it on Valentine’s Day. The company was able to earn her $3,000, and that was part of his starting capital for his company.

Apart from his business venture, he ventured into real estate and bought a 500-acre farmhouse that had over 100 horses. They developed the project to a $5 billion business venture and had a mix of retail space, parks, and offices. His start from Georgetown, New York, made him learn a lot when it comes to business. Kevin Plank is a philanthropic business executive, and he is known for his donations and charitable causes. He donated a customized wheelchair to his former playmate who was involved in an unfortunate accident.
