Gary McGaghey, Private Equities Expert and CFO at Williams Lea Tag

Gary McGaghey’s experience in the private equity industry and his role as CFO at Williams Lea Tag make him uniquely qualified to provide insights into the current state of the PE market. In a recent interview, Gary McGaghey stated that “The current state of the PE market is one of uncertainty. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a decrease in deal flow and an increase in portfolio company valuations.”

Gary went on to say that “Many PE firms are still waiting to see how the pandemic plays out before making any new investments. However, there are still opportunities for PE firms that are willing to take on more risk. For example, distressed companies may be more willing to accept PE investment at a lower valuation than they would have pre-pandemic.”

Also, Gary noted that “The current market conditions may also be favorable for PE firms that are looking to make add-on acquisitions to their portfolio companies. With many companies struggling, there may be opportunities to acquire businesses at a discount.” This is an exciting time for the private equity industry, and Gary McGaghey is someone that we will be watching closely in the coming months.

McGaghey was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and raised in Toronto, Canada. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Com) and the University of Edinburgh (MBA). Gary has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, including roles at Price water house Coopers LLP, CIBC World Markets, and Merrill Lynch Canada.
